At Eccleston, from September 2025, we have chosen to teach the Spanish language as part of our curriculum to provide students with valuable linguistic and cultural skills that will benefit them in an increasingly globalised world. Spanish, being one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, opens doors to a wealth of opportunities for communication, travel and future employment. Introducing Spanish at a young age enhances cognitive development, improves memory, and fosters greater cultural awareness and empathy. Additionally, learning a second language helps students develop a broader perspective, making them more adaptable and better prepared to thrive in diverse environments. By offering Spanish, we aim to equip our students with the tools they need to succeed in an interconnected, multicultural society – to thrive in a changing world.

Eccleston Primary School intends to use the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. All pupils will be expected to achieve their full potential by encouraging high expectations and excellent standards in their foreign language learning - the aim being that pupils will feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond Key Stage 2.
