We have a very active Eco Team at Eccleston Primary School!

Pupils are encouraged to apply for the role of Eco warrior  and make a presentation to the class about what they would like to do to help our world. This may be in the form of a PowerPoint or short speech. Two children are chosen for each class Y1-Y6.

Everyday, the Eco team have a role in switching lights off and checking the recycling in school.

Every half term, the team meets to discuss next steps and ideas for raising awareness for many environmental issues. These have included such things as waste, recycling, protecting the poles/ woodland/ oceans and raising money to help disaster areas eg animals caught up in wildfires. We also make bird feeders for our feathered friends. This year, we hope to improve the bug hotel too!

This year, we sold wonderful hedgehog bracelets and raised over £300 for Chorley Hedgehog Sanctuary, where they care for sick or injured hedgehogs.

Every year, we set an eco competition, examples of which have been a stick model and an eco wrapping challenge for Christmas gifts.

At school events, the team get involved with the Eco stall which sells everything from Fairtrade/cocoa plan chocolate, sustainable gifts, eco friendly household products and organic snacks. They love being a shop keeper! This is to raise awareness of eco-friendly products.

Every year, we also hold a FairTrade week where all pupils can purchase a fairtrade banana and organic juice.

Look out for the next Eco Challenge........!
